Discover Your Own Beauty

Wherever you are in your life, whatever journey you are on or whatever your fears are you need to discover your own beauty. We all want to exist and be seen, be heard, be noticed, whether it is to strangers, family or friends.  We let fear keep us from being who we are meant to be, it suffocates and keeps us from growing.  Fear can drive you and set you free if you choose to let it.

What is your legacy/heirloom that you want to leave to your loved ones? Do this for the generation behind you.

Amy is a mother of two little ones and in her 30s.  She asked me to photograph her as a gift to her husband and to have portraits for her children when they reach the age she is here.  We worked together designing her photoshoot.  She flipped the pages of Voulez Vous Boudoir’s Portrait magazine, reviewed our website and social media and we came up with a plan of action for her photoshoot designing especially for her.

The black gown she is wearing is vintage from the 1940s purchased for the studio a few years back.  The images in the black hat were designed specially for her using lace and velvet hand picked by Lana Thomas.  The hat we just added a fascinator to it for an added element.  The flower picture is a headdress made specially for Voulez Vous Boudoir.

I look forward to designing your custom portrait experience so you can discover your own beauty.

Flowers in Bloom

The beauty of a woman when she is pregnant reminds me of flowers in bloom.  They are beautiful as a bud and like a flower in bloom she becomes more beautiful than before.   This is the third time I have photographed this beautiful woman over the years and I have gotten to know her and the things that make her feel beautiful.  I knew she loved flowers and all the wonderful colors they come in.  It seemed perfect to wrap her in cheese cloth and lay her in a bed of flowers (inspired by my most favorite artist, Kirsty Mitchell).  I wish I had counted how many flowers I had in all those bags, but I was working very quickly so my mommy-to-be wouldn’t pass out on me.  The green gown was a purchase I made in Dallas at a vintage shop and the headpiece I picked up at Michaels and just stuck the flowers in the twigs.

Twelve years ago I started photographing pregnant women.  This was my favorite part of photography … over families, weddings, children, and documentaries.  I enjoyed the peace and softness of the moment, sharing the feeling with these ladies as they started down a new journey of motherhood and making them feel beautiful.

“I Loved You From The Start”

I loved you from the very start…
You stole my breath, embraced my heart.
Our life together has just begun,
You’re part of me, my little one.
As mother with child, each day I knew
My mind would be filled with thoughts of you.
I’m daydreaming of the things we’ll share,
Like late-night bottles and teddy bears.
Like first steps and skinned knees,
Like bedtime stories and ABC’s.
I’m thinking of things you’ll want to know,
Like how birds fly and flowers grow.
I’ve thought of lessons I’ll need to share,
Like standing tall and playing fair.
When I first see your precious face,
I’ll pray your life be touched with grace.
I’ll thank the angels from above,
And promise you unending love.
Each night I’ll lay you down to sleep,
I’ll gently kiss your head and cheek.
I’ll count your little fingers and toes,
I’ll memorize your eyes and nose.
I will linger at your nursery door,
Awed each day that I love you more.
Through misty eyes, I’ll dim the light,
And whisper, “I love you” every night.
As mother with child our journey’s begun,
My heart’s yours forever, little one.
I loved you from the very start…
You stole my breath, embraced my heart.

Maternity Portraits | Tulsa, OK

A little over two years ago I photographed this beautiful young lady during her first pregnancy.  I was so excited when she called to tell me she was ready for another mommy-to-be photo session.  It’s always such a joy when a returning client calls for more portraits.  It was exciting to photograph the whole family and this time to include “big sister!”  Below are a few of our favorites….

Second Time Around

Can a woman feel any more beautiful than when she is carrying life inside her?!  We started our session with Amy and her family so we could get the little one while he was still curious about this whole situation.  Eventually, the boys went out for a bite leaving mom to strut her stuff.  Amy relaxed and she began to glow … I could see it in her eyes and face that she felt beautiful and special!

Amy!  Thank you so much for allowing me to document this beautiful time in your life.

Love Love Love.
